Automatic Treasure Hunt Draw | Custom Explorers and Prizes

Set up 2–12 explorers and 1–24 prize items. Follow branching neon mountain trails to a shared summit draw. Adjust quantities; fewer prizes leave some explorers without a prize, while extras remain unclaimed.

How to start a treasure hunt

  1. Add explorers and prizes: Add 2–12 people in Roster and 1–24 prize units in compact rows. Adjust quantities with the buttons or paste lists in bulk. Names allow 20 characters and prizes allow 40; counts do not need to match.
  2. Send your crew: Preview Three ridges, Twin valleys or Switchbacks, or redraw the trails. Starting keeps the previewed layout; drawing again rotates to the next layout. Everyone climbs to the same summit, with an automatic close-up near arrival.
  3. Discover everyone’s prize: Everyone reaches the summit and receives at most one prize. A shortage means some explorers win nothing; surplus prizes appear under Unclaimed prizes. Copy results, edit the setup or draw again.

Randomness and privacy

A uniform Web Crypto Fisher–Yates shuffle prepares the draw. With N explorers and M prize units, N−M empty tickets are added if M<N. Tickets are assigned without replacement, at most one per person. Each explorer has theoretical probability 1/max(N,M) of receiving a specific prize unit and min(1,M/N) of winning any prize. Identical labels keep separate IDs; M−N surplus units remain unclaimed. Distinct routes are drawn separately from 12 complete routes, and arrival order is shuffled independently. Animation and skipping never change awards. Lists and results remain in page memory, are not uploaded, and clear when you leave or refresh. The mountain is an original entertainment scene with Kenney Blocky Characters 2.0 (CC0) assets, not a hiking map.

Frequently asked questions

Is this a race to the chests?
No. Everyone reaches the summit. Prize and no-prize outcomes are fixed at the start; arrival order only controls when they are revealed.
Can I add several identical prizes?
Yes. Set a prize card’s quantity to 3 for three independent units. When pasting a list, each line is one unit; identical labels remain separate.
Does skipping change the result?
No. It reveals the existing assignments. The system’s reduced-motion preference also reveals results immediately.
What if prize and explorer counts differ?
Each person receives at most one prize. Four people and two prizes means two people win nothing; four people and six prizes leaves two prizes unclaimed. Each unit is awarded only once.
